Nearly $24,000 was raised on Saturday, November 17th, at
Story County Medical Center Endowment Foundation’s Black & White
Ball-Hawaii. The proceeds from the Ball will be added to the
Foundation’s capital campaign, bringing a grand total of nearly
$750,000 of the $1 million goal for Story County Medical
Center’s (SCMC) replacement medical center project.
"This year’s event was extra special as the Foundation
celebrated its 30th anniversary and because of the
hospital’s recent success with the Iowa Health Facilities
Council," said Todd Willert, SCMC Administrator. "It couldn’t
have come at a better time. Everyone was in a celebratory mood,"
said Willert.
The Hawaiian theme of this year’s Black & White Ball event
added a tropical flair as one of the top live auction items was
a condominium in Kona, Hawaii, offered by Connie and Larry Krupp
of Nevada. The decorations, some auction items, and the dinner
buffet then played off that theme.
"We decided to go with the Hawaiian theme to add a little fun
to the festivities and because the trip to Hawaii had proven to
be so popular in the past," said Lisa Nady, SCMC Endowment
Foundation President.
The event proved to be a success as this year’s silent and
live auction raised more money than past medical center
fundraising galas. Held at Gate’s Hall in Nevada, the Ball was
the fourth of its kind for the medical center. Over 250
supporters gathered for a buffet dinner catered by Christiani’s
VIP Catering and live music played by Murphy’s Law.
"Many individuals and businesses contributed to make this
year’s ball a huge success," said Barbara Gerlach, SCMC
Endowment Foundation Liaison. "With either donation items for
the auction or sponsoring corporate tables, or the incredible
baskets donated by hospital departments, all made for a great
evening."
The Black & White Ball is a biennial fundraising event.
Organizers say the next ball is slated for 2009 and are hopeful
it will coincide with the opening of the replacement medical
center.
