COSTS HOLD STEADY FOR REPLACEMENT MEDICAL CENTER
SCMC AWARDED CERTIFICATE OF NEED
On Wednesday, October
24th, Story County Medical Center received a long-awaited
certificate of need from the State of Iowa’s Health Facilities
Council. The certificate gives the medical center the green
light to move forward with building a replacement facility at
the corner of G Avenue and South 19th Street in
Nevada, Iowa.

“We are excited to are excited to move
forward with the project,” said Todd Willert, Administrator at Story County
Medical Center (SCMC). “By receiving the certificate of need, we ensure that
we'll be able to continue fulfilling our mission and meeting the healthcare
needs of Story County residents into the future.”
The mission of Story County Medical
Center addresses some of the barriers that can interfere with access to care –
lack of transportation, fear of navigating complex medical facilities,
separation from social networks, cost, time and distance. By making
healthcare more accessible – through the replacement facility, five outlying
clinics, ambulance, ER, outpatient services, acute and skilled nursing
beds – the entire county is strengthened.
SCMC
has been serving the health care needs of Story County residents since 1951.
Since that time, SCMC has evolved from a traditional acute care hospital to a
newer, rural-based model of diversified health services that truly meets the
needs of Story County’s rural residents. Not only do these services support the
health of direct patients, but they also contribute to an environment that is
attractive to both a productive workforce and county-wide business development
opportunities.
