Coblation Information
Faster, less painful recovery from tonsillectomies
with Coblation®
Although a tonsillectomy is
a relatively minor surgery, many adults and kids dread the procedure due to the
long – and often painful – recovery. Thanks to a new technology called
Coblation®, however, recovery from tonsillectomies is now considerably shorter and
much less painful.
How Coblation works
Conventional tonsillectomy
devices burn or cut tonsil tissue, typically resulting in heavy bleeding and extensive
pain for the patient. With Coblation,
Dr. Simplot uses a unique, low-temperature technology that gently and precisely
removes tonsils without damaging surrounding healthy tissue.
The benefits of Coblation technology
Patients experience significantly
less pain after a Coblation tonsillectomy, as well as a much faster return to their
normal diet (2.4 days with Coblation vs. 7.6 days with traditional methods). The
procedure typically takes just 20 minutes, and most people can return to normal
activities within just a few days.
When to see a doctor about chronic strep throat
Chronic throat problems like
strep throat and tonsillar infections can make anyone miserable—not to mention
the missed days of school or work. Typically, four to six instances of such problems
a year are enough to warrant a visit to an ENT specialist. In some cases, removal
of the tonsils may be recommended.
