Nancy Willert, Director of Wellness
Nancy
Willert, RN, BSN, is the Director of the Wellness
Department. She oversees all department activity while
also actively working within all of the different areas.
Nancy is an American Heart Association certified
Instructor, a member of the AACVPR (American Association
of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehab), IACPR (Iowa
Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehab),
ISHET (Iowa Society for Healthcare Education &
Training), and IHEN (Central Iowa Health Educators
Network.
Nancy graduated in 1979 from Lutheran Hospital School for
Nurses with RN degree. She received her BSN from the
University of Iowa in 1989. Nancy has worked in a wide
variety of clinical settings including: charge nurse of 40
bed Medical/Sugical floor, staff nurse for critical care
unit, outpatient surgery, laser technician/scrub nurse for a
laser eye center, public health nurse, staff nurse at Iowa
Kidney Stone Center, charge nurse University of Minnesota
pre/post heart transplant and charge nurse University of
Iowa cardiac unit.
Her hobbies include running, art and reading. She lives in
Nevada, Iowa, with her husband and two daughters.
Mary Coughenour, Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse
Mary
P. Coughenour, RN, BSN, works as the Cardiac Rehabilitation
Nurse in the Wellness Department. As the Cardiac Rehab
Nurse, Mary works with patients that have had cardiac bypass
surgery, MI (heart attack) an/or have stints, angioplasty,
or PTCA's placed. Mary also does patient and family
education in regards to medication, diet and exercise.
In addition, Mary is a Certified CPR Instructor through the
American Heart Association and teaches both Healthcare
Provider and Heartsaver CPR classes at SCMC.
Mary was born in Nevada, Iowa, and graduated from Nevada
High School. She attended Marshalltown Community College and
received an RN Associates Degree in 1996. Mary later
attended Mercy College of Health Science where she received
her BSN in 2004. She is the mother of two active boys. Along
with spending time with family and friends, she enjoys
camping, reading, and walking.
Steve Van Dam, Exercise Physiologist
Steve Van Dam, BS, is the Coordinator of Exercise Physiology
in the Wellness Department at Story County Medical Center.
He oversees all wellness classes that SCMC provides to the
community and teaches many of the classes himself. In
addition, Steve works with Cardiac Rehabilitation patients,
teaches the exercise portion of Diabetic Education classes,
instructs SCMC’s childhood wellness program “Get Movin’” and
helps with other department events.
Steve graduated from Iowa State University in 1998 with
Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Science.
He currently holds 23 health and fitness certifications.
Steve holds a position on the Park and Recreation Board in
Nevada. He also sits on the SCMC Endowment Foundation Board.
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family
and weightlifting.
Linda Armbrecht, Employee Health/Infection
Control Nurse
Linda
Armbrecht RN, BSN, has been SCMC’s Employee Health Nurse
since 2004 and the Infection Control Nurse since 2001. Linda
oversees all employee health issues and new employee
screenings. In addition, she implements infection control
policies throughout the Medical Center. Linda has background
in Intensive Care, Coronary Care and Medical Surgical
nursing.
Originally, from Burt, Iowa, Linda grew up on a farm. She
graduated from Burt High School in 1968; Iowa Methodist
School of Nursing in 1972, and University of Iowa College of
Nursing receiving her BSN in 1980. Linda recently received
recognition for working 20 years at Story County Medical
Center.
Linda lives in Colo, Iowa, with her husband Allan. She is
married to a farmer, and they have three grown children. She
is a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she sings in
the choir and belongs to the Vesper's Church Circle. In her
spare time enjoys traveling and spending time with family
and friends.
